Visiting family on the Wirral from overseas: why a serviced house beats a hotel (or the sofa)
If you are flying in from Australia, Canada, the US, Ireland or elsewhere to see children, parents or grandchildren on the Wirral, you usually want two things at once: time with family, and your own space to recover from the flight. Wirral Stays offers three owner managed self catering homes in Birkenhead and Moreton. This guide explains why guests book a whole house instead of crowding relatives, how Manchester and Liverpool airports connect, and how to plan a stay from about a week to a month with Helen before you travel.

Who is this guide for?
You live abroad, your family lives on the Wirral or wider Merseyside, and you are planning a trip of a week or more. You might stay with relatives some evenings but want your own base for jet lag, cooking, and space for a partner or teenage children.
Wirral Stays is not a hotel chain. Helen owns and manages Patricia Place and Fairwater House in Birkenhead and Kingfisher Nest in Moreton. Each sleeps up to six in three bedrooms, with gardens, Wi-Fi, Sky Q and Netflix, and driveway parking.
Why book a house instead of staying with family?
Sleeping on a sofa or in a box room works for a night or two. For a two or three week visit, most families prefer a separate home nearby: you keep routines, your hosts keep theirs, and nobody feels they are underfoot.
Self catering also saves on eating out every meal and gives you a washing machine for long trips. Guests often have dinner with family most days but breakfast and quiet evenings in their own lounge.
Hotels split the group into rooms, add parking fees, and rarely offer a kitchen. A serviced house matches how many overseas visitors already live at home.
Why the Wirral is a good base
The Wirral peninsula sits between Liverpool and North Wales: coastal walks at West Kirby and Hoylake, New Brighton, Port Sunlight, and countryside within a short drive.
Liverpool city centre is around 10 to 15 minutes from Birkenhead by Merseyrail or road. Chester and Cheshire Oaks are about 25 minutes. That makes it easy to mix family time with sightseeing without changing accommodation.
If your relatives live in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Moreton or along the north Wirral coast, Helen's homes are placed for quick visits rather than commuting from a city centre hotel.
Getting here from Manchester or Liverpool airports
Manchester Airport is the largest gateway for long haul flights. By road it is typically around 45 to 60 minutes to Birkenhead or Moreton depending on traffic. Many guests hire a car for the stay because parking is on the driveway at each property.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport suits European and some long haul routes. It is closer, often 30 to 40 minutes by car to Birkenhead.
Trains from Manchester to Liverpool Lime Street and onward Merseyrail to Birkenhead North are possible if you travel light. With suitcases and family, most overseas visitors prefer a pre booked taxi or hire car for the first arrival.
Patricia Place, Fairwater House and Birkenhead North station
Patricia Place and Fairwater House are in Birkenhead, a few minutes' walk from Birkenhead North on the Wirral line. Trains run frequently to Liverpool city centre (James Street, Moorfields, Lime Street connections) without driving or city centre parking.
Kingfisher Nest in Moreton suits guests whose family live closer to the north Wirral coast or who want the quickest road links toward Royal Liverpool and Hoylake. All three homes have the same standard: three bedrooms, full kitchen, garden, and driveway parking.
How long to stay and how booking works
Overseas family visits often run from about seven nights to four weeks. Weekly rates and longer stay discounts are available; send your dates and Helen will quote direct without platform fees.
Enquire online at wirralstays.com/enquire with type holiday, or WhatsApp Helen before you book flights. She is used to replying when the UK is awake and you are on evening time abroad.
The same homes serve contractors and insurance guests midweek and holiday guests at other times. Early dates help Helen hold the right house for your family.
What to expect in the house
Each property is self contained: oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washer dryer, iron, fast Wi-Fi, and streaming TV. Bring adapters for UK sockets (type G).
Gardens are private for coffee, barbecues, or letting children play while adults call home on video.
Helen meets many guests on arrival or offers flexible check in. Ask about cot or high chair needs when you enquire.
